Chick-fil-A flap rocks another American university

The war on poultry rages on yet another public university campus – this time at the University of Nebraska – Kearney.

The hullabaloo started last January when students were asked to select a new dining option for the student union. Their choices included Chick-fil-A, Panda Express, IHOP, A&W and Sbarro.

The youngsters chose Chick-fil-A – in a landslide. I mean, who doesn’t love a plump juicy chicken breast tucked between hot, buttered buns?

However, it turns out majority does not rule at the University of Nebraska – Kearney. A vocal minority pitched a fit and demanded that Chick-fil-A be banished from campus. . . .

“We decided, after much consideration, to poll students again,” student body president Evan Calhoun wrote on his Facebook page.

Calhoun then went on to explain why Chick-fil-A would not be included in their new poll. . . .

“Pro-poultry student Aaron Ohri fired off a letter calling the student government’s decision a “complete and total slap in the face to many of us on this campus who believe that Chick-fil-A is not wrong in what they believe.”

“I understand that a Christian lifestyle in this day and society is completely ‘disrespectful’ but please do not ever again send me an email speaking for the ‘whole student body’ when you do not have a clue what most of us actually think,” he wrote in a letter to the university. . . .

Well, Mr. Gottula, when you put the puzzle pieces together you discover a very disturbing national trend. Those who do not affirm the LGBT agenda are systematically being silenced.

Unless you ascribe to their point of view – you are not welcome to participate in the public marketplace – of ideas or commerce.

You will be made to conform — resistance is futile.

If you have been reading my review on The Law by Bastiat this story fits right in to the fears Bastiat raises. Let me see if I get this story correct: the University of Nebraska at Kearney surveyed the school with a list of food services to see what to include as options for their dining pleasure. Overwhelmingly the student body chose Chick-fil-A for their scrumptious chicken meals. Then a small group who hates the position of its owner complained so the school dropped Chick-fil-A. Oh, but then the student body president in a great moment of fairness sent out another survey, but conveniently left out Chick-fil-A as a choice. Oh, damn, this is democracy at work! That’s a factious statement if you know what I mean.

Whatever happened to our great learning institutions of liberality and democracy? They’ve become bastions of Mao’s Cultural Revolution where the few lord it over the many and there can be no openness to learning and how to think, only propaganda and what to think. And if you think different than the few radicals who now define your freedom and what you should believe then you’re out, you’re a pariah.

So by all means, let’s have choice, but only if those choices are acceptable to the radicals of society. If this is the new norm, and it is becoming that, I certainly don’t recognize this country anymore.
